New Gearbox – Gear X / Kiwi Special Projects

by on Mar.19, 2013, under Garage, General

Many of you might have seen some new decals on our DC5 race car…Gear X and Special Projects.
So what happened? We hadn’t updated our blog for a while, but during that time our team member Reinier did an excellent job in rebuilding our gearbox. The stock box wasn’t too happy with the 300+ HP we thrown at it, so time for improvement here!

We got in contact with Jeff Owen from Kiwi Project / Special Projects / Gear X. After some discussion and advice with the goals for this car in mind we decided to get the following parts:

* Pro III CLose Ratio Gear Set
* 5.08 Final Drive
* Carbon Synchros
* New bearings/Seals.

Suspension update.

by on Feb.02, 2013, under Garage

In order to get the most out of our DC5 we have to be able to adjust every setting you can think of. When project dc5 was being build BC Racing did not have a coilover set available with external reservoirs and rebound damping adjustment. That’s when it comes in handy to be the BC Racing distributor for the Benelux, when it is available you are the first to know about it. Therefore out with the old, in with the new! Well……OLD…..the BR series only covered a few laps but only the best is good enough.

BC Racings premium flagship coilovers are the external reservoir ER Series with separate compression and rebound damping adjustment. The ER Series coilovers bring with them the high quality and unique features seen on the BRĀ  type but have the additional benefit of external reservoirs and the ability to allow you to individually adjust and set compression and rebound damping rates. The external reservoir ER Series coilovers allow BC Racing to increase the oil capacity of the damper unit. The additional oil capacity reduces peak oil temperatures which decreases variations in damping rates due to oil viscosity changes. The reduction in damping rate variations improves handling and ultimate on road and track performance.

Some extra interior parts installed.

by on Feb.13, 2011, under Garage

This weekend we started working on the brakelines. HEL Brakelines has a special ORANGE colored brakeline that we use. We also installed the hydrylic handbrake (Six performance), the short shift system (Buddyclub) and a brake force distributor.

Next week we will make the brakelines. Since Showoff Imports is a official HEL Brakelines production facility and distributor, this shouldn’t be that difficult for us ;)

Wires, Wires and more Wires…

by on Feb.13, 2011, under Garage

The last couple of weeks we have been working on the wiring. We first had the idea to use the original wire-loom and remove all wires we did not need. After cleaning up this loom for days and days, we decided to get rid off everything (wires, fuse boxes, relais, etc) and start all over! We just installed the engine harness and cut off all ECU wires! Thanks to electronical specialist Remco we now almost have a brand new electrical/wiring plan and schematics ready. Our mechanic Toine got us a new fuse/relais box and next week our ECU will be back in with Hondata installed, so then we can start the new wiring!

Water Pump / Power Steering / Alternator

by on Feb.13, 2011, under Garage

We removed all belt driven parts from the engine: The airco pump, the water pump and the hydralic power steering:
- Water pump is replaced by a Mezeire electrical pump. This is mounted on the K-Tuned Blockoff plate (where the original water pump was installed).
- Airco: Duh… removed forever :)
- Power steering: We removed this as well, replaced by a electric power steering rack from the EP3.
- Alternator: Also removed and replaced by a brand new alternator from a B16 Engine.

More picture will follow soon when we got all other parts to finish our plumbing part of the project :)

Installing the Radiator and Oil Cooler

by on Feb.13, 2011, under Garage

Our enourmous radiator was a bit larger then expected, so we had to cut the subframe in the front and reweld it a bit lower. We also installed the Setrab Oil Cooler, nicely in the middle of the front bumper’s air vent.

Installing the lightweight Carbon Seat(s)

by on Feb.13, 2011, under Garage

Despite the whole car was already painted, we still had to do some welding to fabricate seat mounts. Reinier again took the welding torch and started to work! Each seat has a weight of only 4.5KG. The passenger seat is removable for the actual races.
