Chop-shop Dongen!

by on Oct.16, 2010, under Garage

In order to make room for the exhaust we extended the tunnel all the way to the back seat, or what ever was the back seat. The intention is to make the car’s bottom flat, to run the exhaust to the back, half way to the back that is, we had to extend the tunnel. It was time to start chopping!!

In the back of the car, between the two back wheels, the new fuel cell has to be placed. We picked up a nice and shiny aluminium fuel cell. We didn’t know at the time an aluminium one wasn’t any good for E85 bio-ethanol. Because that is the fuel we are going to run we had to change the tank for a plastic example. Ronald ordered a nice big fuel cell at summit racing. We don’t need the original tank any more so we needed to make a steel container that we could weld in the bottom to fit the fuel cell into. OK than, let’s chop some more!

That sure takes rid of some excess weight. Too bad we have to put some back in. To be honest, it’s a lot of fun cutting the car but sometimes I think, oh my god, how am I going to fix that. For now it came together very well.
